Thank you for purchasing BindView NCS. This file contains current information
that may not be included in your documentation.
Don't forget to send in your registration card so we can keep you posted
about future program enhancements and upgrades!
┌────────────────────┐
│ Installation Notes │
└────────────────────┘
You MUST install the NCS Console before you attempt to install any add-on
modules, such as the Server Information Module (SIM) or Workstation Auditing
Module (WAM).
Please note the "Btrieve Information" section below for a brief comment
about NetWare Btrieve.
┌─────────────────────┐
│ Btrieve Information │
└─────────────────────┘
BindView NCS requires the use of Btrieve. We HIGHLY recommend the use of
the Btrieve NLM (for NetWare 386 servers), which should be installed
according to guidelines in the enclosed documentation.
This 3.11 release of BindView NCS does not include the Btrieve NLM, which
comes with the NetWare Operating System on a special Btrieve disk.
See the Quick Start card for the minimum parameters you should use when
configuring the Btrieve NLM.
┌─────────────────────────────┐
│ Program Memory Requirements │
└─────────────────────────────┘
BindView NCS requires a machine with 500-550K free conventional memory
(the memory from 0-640K). Any less could potentially result in "Out of
Memory" errors.
To obtain the fastest possible program speed, run BindView NCS from a
machine with at least 1MB of expanded memory free.
If expanded memory is not available, try to use a machine with extended
memory. This is not nearly as fast as expanded memory, but much faster than
a machine with no expanded or extended memory.
BindView NCS will run on a machine with no expanded or extended memory, but
reports will run sluggishly.
┌───────────────────────────────┐
│ Upgrading From BindView+ v3.0 │
└───────────────────────────────┘
Install the BindView NCS Console into a new directory. Do NOT install the
console over an existing BindView+ v3.0 installation.
You can use old BindView+ report configuration files (RCFs) with BindView
NCS by copying your old reports (*.RCF) into the REPORTS subdirectory.
Any RCFs created by BindView+ v3.0 will be automatically converted by the
BindView NCS Console to the new version.
Old Report Schedule Files (RFSs), however, are NOT compatible with the new
BindView NCS. All schedules must be recreated manually.
Also, output devices created wtih BindView+ v3.0 are NOT compatible with
BindView NCS. You will need to create new output devices from with BindView
NCS Setup menu under "Device Configuration". Note that setting up
HP-compatible printers is much easier now, as codes for orientation and modes
for HP printers are built-in to the output device editor (and thus don't
require Print Job Configurations!!!!).
